Company Website - Online Presence

On Wednesday, the 11th of this month, I completed coding the website for Chang Yong Seng Hardware & Tools Enterprise. We were very enthusiastic to create a website for the company because we wanted to create an online presence for the company. We felt that it was important to do so as due to constraints in the Facebook and Twitter pages, we are unable to provide all the necessary information on the company.

Furthermore, the market segment that is most likely to visit hardware stores are middle-aged adults above 30+ of which a significantly larger percentage do not have time to use Social Media Platforms. Also by providing important informations like Opening Hours, Location and Products sold through a formal website, the company would be held in a more serious light as we feel that Facebook and Twitter pages are informal.

Also, as highlighted by Mr Chong during one of the SMM lessons, nowadays it is a must for companies to have a website or else people would doubt the existence of the company. Furthermore, the business might be perceived as too small and insignificant as they do not even have an official website.

Initially, it was planned that Dion would take charge of the layout of the website and create a few pages while I would add in content and create the other 75% of the pages based on the layout designed by him. However, we felt that the layout was slightly disorganized and could be further improved on. Hence, based on Dion's existing layout:
I re-coded from scratch loosely based on the current layout:
Furthermore, I also used the Facebook Application that Dion painstakingly researched on and took hours to do. I decided to not use his Twitter Application though because it was buggy on Twitter's end and did not work at times.

After showing the website to my team mates, they felt that the initial logo:
looked fuzzy and was of funky colours. Hence I decided to change the logo to the existing one:
based on their feedback. After getting the thumbs up from the rest of my team, I decided that the website was finally done. The pages will now be shown below:

Company's Facebook Page Profile Picture [UPDATE]

The original post:  http://1a06smm.blogspot.sg/2012/07/companys-facebook-page-profile-picture.html

After uploading the logo to our Facebook group, Xiao Chen immediately gave very useful feedback. He commented that red and white might make the title more attention-catching and that yellow and green made it look fuzzy. I never thought of it that way and immediately started working on amending it as I felt that his feedback was right!

Wow at the local company's Facebook page I was analysing.

Wow, what a shock I got when I access Zener's Facebook page just now. The last time I check their Facebook page, I remember their Facebook page initially only has 1 friend (or followers); the latest post was in year 2011 and there were only 2 posts with pictures.

Now, the Facebook page has 24 friends! (Big difference!!!), and it is beginning to post up new content - It posted about their products last Sunday.

Just wondering what made them revive their Facebook page. Hmmm......

Company's Facebook Page Profile Picture

A few days ago, Xiao Chen decided to do a 'Profile Picture' design for our Facebook Page so as to make it more visually appealing. The result being:

I felt that the design was quite nice. However, there were a few problems that I felt were significant enough to request for an editing.

In my opinion (and that of others; I asked Santhosh and Wee Ping), the font for the title was hard to read. Furthermore, the title was wrong. Instead of "Chang yong seng Hardware Company", it should have been "Chong Yeng Seng Hardware & Tools Enterprise" and appropriately capitalized. To top it off, the image was of rectangular dimensions instead of squarish dimension, which resulted in the "Thumbnail" cropping out parts of the wrench and hammer. This made it less appealing.

As such, I gave feedback to Xiao Chen and asked if he could make changes. Unfortunately, he could no longer find the .PSD (Photoshop) file. As a result, I decided to re-do a new design that was based on his. I did not ask him as he was already very tired.

Ta-daa~ After spending about 45 minutes in Photoshop, I finally managed to replicate his design and improve upon it. I had encountered a problem with cropping the images as wrenches are shiny, which make it harder for me to crop out the white space. After testing out with various wrenches, I finally found the current one which was luckily suitable.

I decided to re-use the Chang Yong Seng logo which I had already made by myself before hand for the Website so as to provide a sense of unity. I also decided to give the wrench, hammer and title a glow effect so as to make them more visually appealing. Also, the glow effect would probably carry across the message that the store's products are new, clean and of good quality.

P.S. Thanks to Wee Ping for giving feedback!

Visit to the store

Today, the three musketeers(or any cool team names to replace it with) dion, wee ping and xiao chen went to the store to take some pictures regarding the flyer santhosh is going to make. After taking the photos, we went to a study corner around marymount to crop out the images so that santhosh will have a easier time designing the flyers. Even though everyone was clearly weary due to the morning lessons, we persevered and finally completed the work. Santhosh and Evan also contributed as they continued working towards a better design for the flyers in school and Evan actively responded with constructive opinions on suggestions posted on Facebook. Alright the MRT is getting really crowded so I'm signing off.

yours sincerely,
dion
